Internal Medicine

Solving veterinary puzzles every day in dogs, cats,
and pets of all shapes and sizes.

The internal medicine specialists at Animal Specialty Group are highly qualified and skilled in the diagnosis and treatment of disorders that affect the entire body. Whether it is a domestic shorthair with diabetes, a Shetland sheepdog with lupus, a golden retriever with heart disease, or a boxer with lymphatic cancer, we specialize in the treatment of all kinds of illnesses in animals of all sizes.

In fact, our internists are at the forefront of their field, using advances in the field of medicine, state-of-the-art equipment, techniques, and advanced imaging. Our team will provide the very best care possible for your pet, give you the answers you need, and guide you in choosing the best treatment for your pet.

Looking inside for answers.

When it comes to differentiating normal from abnormal, seeing is believing. While other senses are important (hearing, touch, and even smell), the first part of an exam is usually visual. That gets a little challenging, though, inside the body. Our internists use thin, flexible endoscopes that utilize fiber-optic technology, to bring images of the lining of the trachea and bronchi, as well as the esophagus, stomach and colon to life on a monitor. Even smaller, rigid scopes allow us to look far into the nose, ears, and urinary bladder.

From gastric ulcers to nasal polyps, seeing the color and texture of these structures can be critical to making a diagnosis, but so can taking a piece of tissue from the perfect spot with an endoscopic biopsy. This type of biopsy requires a lot less time and anesthesia, not to mention less pain and virtually no recovery time.
