Veterinary Physical Rehabilitation +
An integrated healing program for dogs and cats alike.
At Animal Specialty Group, we offer an integrative approach to healing. We provide the highest quality service for pets in both Physical Rehabilitation + Integrative Medicine and, when appropriate, support or combine them with our state-of-the-art multi-disciplinary care. This integrated, multi-disciplinary approach ensures your pet gets optimal full body support on the road to recovery and wellness.
In fact, we are the first comprehensive specialty hospital in the area to offer on-site Veterinary Physical Rehabilitation + Integrative Medicine services for dogs and cats performed by a veterinarian who possesses a vast array of experience in acupuncture, rehabilitation, Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and food therapy. Plus, our rehabilitation department is further supported by a full array of cutting-edge equipment, designed specifically for pets, including an underwater treadmill, low-level (cold) laser, and electrostimulation.
The result is a broad-based approach to care that is not only a rarity to Southern California, but which few others in the nation can rival.
Healing the mind, body + soul.
Animal Specialty Group provides one of the nation’s most extensive and complete offerings for veterinary Physical Rehabilitation + Integrative Medicine, all under one roof. We can also aid in the ordering of assistive devices – such as slings, harnesses and carts – and we will be happy to provide expert recommendations for home nursing, exercise, massage and diets. The following are just a few of the services we provide:
Physical Rehabilitation: We use the same techniques your own physical therapist would use, modified to suit your pet’s anatomy. Therapies may include: massage, therapeutic exercises, underwater treadmill, low-level laser therapy (LLLT or “cold laser”), electromuscular stimulation (EMS), and a set of exercises that you and your pet can do together at home.
Acupuncture Acupuncture is the insertion of very fine needles into specific points on the body to create specific physiologic effects and has been used for over 3000 years. Acupuncture is most commonly used to relieve pain and muscle spasms by increasing blood flow to targeted areas bringing oxygen to injured cells. It also prompts the release of natural painkillers in the body called endorphins.
There are different acupuncture techniques and ways to stimulate acupuncture points such as: dry needles (only acupuncture needles used), aqua-puncture (injection of a sterile liquid into points), electro-acupuncture (applying an electrical stimulation to the needles), and laser acupuncture (using laser light to stimulate points) which can be helpful for patients that do not tolerate needles.
Holistic Consultation: Using various approaches, including nutritional support, Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), Western herbal medicine and nutritional support we are able to help treat your pet with the same “whole body” approach as humans have been benefitting from for thousands of years.
Weight Loss Program: Overweight pets have been shown to have a shortened lifespan. Pet obesity is one of the most common problems seen in veterinary medicine. Our weight loss program improves overall health, while decreasing stress on joints through low impact exercise. Our rehabilitation therapist will work with you and your primary care veterinarian to help your pet lose those excess pounds.
Geriatric Program: We’ve developed specific programs to help provide “senior” pets with alternative therapies to alleviate pain, improve mobility, support the immune system and maintain or improve cognitive function.
