The cutting edge of veterinary treatment for dogs and cats.

Whether your Golden Retriever swallowed something he shouldn’t have or your Siamese Cat developed a tumor, Animal Specialty Group offers innovative, cutting-edge surgical procedures, in addition to traditional, proven techniques, to handle both the routine as well as the complex. From minimally invasive procedures and laser surgery, to designing and developing groundbreaking techniques and equipment, our industry-leading surgeons have been diagnosing and treating animals of all sizes for over 20 years.

Today, our board-certified surgeons work in conjunction with our specialists in internal medicine, oncology, and radiology, to treat a wide range of injuries and conditions in both dogs and cats, including Total Hip Replacement (THR), Canine Hip Dysplasia, Ruptured Cruciate Ligament injuries, Patellar Luxation Repair, Femoral Head Ostectomy, Osteochondritis Dissecans, Arthroscopy, and a whole lot more.

ASG Surgery

Cutting with light.

CO2 surgical lasers are another valuable addition to our surgical arsenal. Laser surgery allows for very discrete, very specific incisions, without the bleeding caused by traditional scalpel surgery. Just as with other surgical instruments, lasers are not appropriate for every surgery. But in some procedures, such as a cancerous tumor with a large, complicated blood supply, or oral surgery such as soft palate resections in brachycephalic breeds, lasers are precisely the right way to go. Surgical lasers are literally the cutting edge of surgical tools.

ASG Surgery 2

Less invasive = Less painful.

Minimally-invasive surgery is the wave of the future for many procedures in both human and veterinary medicine. Rigid endoscopy allows surgery to be performed through few very small incisions, which causes less trauma, less discomfort and requires shorter healing times. And faster healing means happier animals – and happy pet parents.

At Animal Specialty Group, our surgeons even work with endoscope manufacturers to not only stay current, but to make suggestions to improve the procedures or instrument design.

Surgical innovations.

Human and veterinary surgery is advancing constantly. Advances in materials, engineering, and techniques benefit all surgeons, regardless of the species of the patient. We take advantage of these breakthroughs in materials and procedures to create unique solutions to animal-specific problems and needs for both dogs and cats alike.

Dr. Kirk Wendelburg was a major contributor to the design of the implant and surgical procedure for the most commonly performed canine hip replacement today. More recently, Dr. Wendelburg tackled the problem of canine elbow replacement, working with engineers across the globe to design a revolutionary new elbow replacement implant and surgery for dogs with elbow dysplasia.

X-Ray: ImplantAs material technology continues to advance, ASG surgeons will continue to advance the surgical options for our animal patients. To learn more about the incredible advances coming out of ASG, visit our Innovations page.
